Happiness is a large contiguous volume. [May. 18th, 2009|01:37 pm]
[Current Mood | content]

So I finally got around to buying a pair of 1.5 TB drives, and have set myself up a 1.3 TB RAID 1 array for all my data.

This is a wonderful change from having 4 separate drives separated into numerous partitions, as I am finally able to properly organize all my stuff without running into drive space limits.

As it turns out, I have some 600 GB of data. 700 something with all of my duplicate music counted in there. I've got some 100 gb of music, much of which are duplicate files, and no good way of sorting them out and cataloging everything properly.

Likewise, categorizing and sorting through my old personal documents is also a pain in the ass, but I'm mostly done with that at this point.

It's really nice to go from having years and years of piles of accumulated crap scattered everywhere to everything all neatly in one place.

Ok, well, almost everything. I still have to figure out what the hell to do with this music...

Note to self. [Feb. 1st, 2009|12:57 pm]
[Current Mood | Dumb]

Cameras work better when you have batteries in them.

Drove my ass all the way to Marin on a perfectly clear day only to discover while overlooking golden gate bridge that I had left my battery charging under my desk the night before.

I need a spare battery to leave in my camera bag.

Friday night in Union City [Jan. 9th, 2009|11:49 pm]
[Current Mood | tired]

Some Friday nights the rx8 club meets in union city. We had a good turn out tonight and i tried to take a couple photos. Without a tripod, this was the best shot got. IS lenses are a wonderful thing.

I also found some engrish.

Noticed that social situations don't freak me out anymore. Good, I guess now the work can finally begin.

Track Days. [Jan. 5th, 2009|05:59 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]

Work was slammed today. As to be expected with everyone coming back with 2 weeks worth of no tech support. Found work oddly refreshing, and while there was a definite 'ugh' quality to it, I found it easy to shrug off rather then it getting to me. I guess I'm not burnt out anymore.

I think I might go to a track day at Buttonwillow on the 24th this month. It will cost me about 200 bucks for everything, including an instructor for a session to help me find the right line.

I'd love to have someone who can work a DSLR come along and grab some cool shots of cars racing around a track. Hanging around a race track all day is probably boring though, so you'd want to bring your own ride to track as well. (What, you thought I was going to let you drive Ren? Fat chance.)

We will need to be there by 7AM; there, is about a half mile from the Lerdo highway exit on I-5. BE THERE! or BE SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Saturday and Sunday [Jan. 4th, 2009|02:40 pm]
Ben came by from Rotary Extreme on Saturday. I want his exhaust, but I want it with better tips then the god awful 4" titanium monstrosities he's using now. Since it's a made to order deal, I don't think that will be a problem. The thing is loud. Set off car alarms loud.

Sunday I did laundry, washed my car and took a few photos of it. I need to figure out how to calculate the depth of field by using the focal length/distance to subject/Fstop so I can get the entire car into focus, and leave the rest of the world fuzzy. Properly sized photos over at my flickr account.

Attention all you people who hate my huge image posts. [Dec. 31st, 2008|12:01 pm]
I now have a flickr account.

The good news is, you won't be seeing large photos here anymore.

The bad news is, I probably wont be posting much on here anymore since the only reason I keep it around is to follow some interesting blogs, and because it's actually my personal journal, and I cannot download the whole thing from here without paying money for a full account (which I refuse to do).

errr. Crap. [Dec. 7th, 2008|06:20 pm]
[Current Mood | irritated]

Went to install my ignition coils today, and found this. I don't ever remember breaking it. I'm going to take to to the dealer, have them do an oil change, fix the air line (I'll cop up to breaking a 10 dollar part rather then asking for it under warranty like a dick, even though i don't remember it happening.) It's the vent for the engines "crank case" Car runs just fine, but I guess the oil could get dirty a bit faster because it's not taking in filtered air. While I'm at it, I think I'll have them change my spark plugs and rotate my tires for me as well. I'm fine with installing the coils myself, but I'm paranoid about breaking a sparkplug, and they are not easy to reach.

Dicks get punched in the face [Oct. 8th, 2008|06:58 am]
[Current Mood | I loled]

Never let it be said that there is no justice in America.

From the Consumerist
----
Dick "It Wasn't My Fault" Fuld, the CEO of bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers, (seen here being heckled after testifying on Capitol Hill) was apparently punched in the face while working out in Lehman gym on the Sunday following the bankruptcy, according to CNBC's Vicki Ward.

Fuld testified before the House Oversight Committee yesterday, blaming everyone but himself for Lehman's collapse, an attitude that prompted Ward to confirm reports that he'd been punched in the face and to side with the attacker:

“From two very senior sources – one incredibly senior source – that he went to the gym after … Lehman was announced as going under. He was on a treadmill with a heart monitor on. Someone was in the corner, pumping iron and he walked over and he knocked him out cold. And frankly after having watched this, I’d have done the same too.”

The Great Equalizer [Sep. 27th, 2008|12:25 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]

I've taken the next step with my stereo system and I've gotten myself an Audiocontrol DQS

30 bands of graphic equalization per channel, and 2 parametric EQ's as well.

I've got a lot of work on my hands. Luckily, I've got the right software to do it. Now I just need a good microphone.

In other news. I attended sevenstock today. a rotary powered car show. obnoxiously large photos will come soon, so if you hate looking at high resolution images them better unfriend me.

Attention motorcycle riders [Aug. 17th, 2008|02:56 pm]
[Current Mood | irritated]

While I'm sure that driving down the middle of windy mountain roads is fantastic fun, It's also a very good way to slam your skull into the front fender of my car on a tight corner. Now I don't care if you kill yourself doing something incredibly stupid, but I do mind if you fuck up my car in the process. I should also note that this extends to bicyclists as well, ESPECIALLY the assholes riding 3 abreast who refuse to move over.

Sharing the road goes both ways. I'm very careful to stay on my side of the road, especially on narrow mountain roads. It could kill you to not do the same.

[Current Mood | accomplished]

Drop in replacement my ass... I had to do a fair bit of sanding to make it fit. I was also able to finally quash that obnoxious ground loop almost completely. It cant be heard over the engine and transmission anyways. It's nice having a good speaker up front. All of a sudden I hear all sorts of new things in my music. Now all thats left is to get the door speakers in and clean up the wires.

Saturday with Doc Wong. [Jun. 22nd, 2008|08:10 pm]
[Current Mood | satisfied]

Went to Doc Wong's auto clinic on Saturday. Had a lesson on seating position and steering inputs, then went on a drive down some incredibly windy roads at breakneck speed. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a few things too.

There's another mod that I have neglected to post up here. I finally installed the puddle lights.

resistance between Ren's head unit and and the negative battery terminal. This should be point one. No wonder I'm getting noise coming from the head unit.
